CPLD was appointed to design the interior and exterior lighting of Ronin, the Japanese restaurant on level 9 of the FIVE LUXE hotel at Jumeirah Beach Residence, overlooking the Arabian Gulf and Ain Dubai.

Inspired by Irezumi, the traditional Japanese tattoo art, and the spirit of the wandering samurai, the interior brings together hand-tiled walls, red paper lanterns and pagoda-style sharing tables. The lighting concept reinforces this narrative with warm, layered light and controlled contrast, creating intimate dining settings while highlighting the teppanyaki and sushi counters as the focal points of the space. On the terrace, lighting is kept discreet so the views across the Gulf remain the main feature.

Ronin was awarded at the Light Middle East Awards 2026.
